Free Web Site Templates

Could your new project benefit from a free template? Where can you find one? What do I do with my free website template? Read on and find out the basic for a DYI website. You can put together your own website with little or no experience. We will provide you with links to validated XHTML templates and software to be able to make it your own website.

Requirements..

You will need an archive software to read the contents of the files for your template. I use Winrar as it will expand just about all archive types.

You are also going to need an editor to make the free template your own. A couple of the most common and powerful names are Frontpage and Dreamweaver. Both are expensive but you can find an affordable and legit copy on here on ebay if you are serious about designing your own web page.

How about free/open source software? NVU Is my favorite open source software for editing templates. Their website even offers tutorials on how to use their software. Remember its free to download and use, but their developers could always use a donation to continue developing the software.

Our top picks for free templates...

Ex Designs CSS and Xhtml Validated templates
I would have to say this is my favorite source. All these templates are css and xhtml validated. What does that mean? You can visit here for a brief article by W3 Schools on the 3 main reasons for being sure your website passes validation. Basically the answer is that you want your website accessible by all browsers, and there are many more than just IE. And you want the website accessible by all people. Does your website have to be validated? No. And actually most top name website that appear in the top 5 of all search engines aren't validated. But they can afford for it not to be.

Open Source Temples

Yet another a+ site for css and xhtml validate templates.

Free Web Templates
If you aren't very concerned about validation at this point then free websitetemplates is a great source for a never ending list of free templates to work with for your first project.
